Welcome
Welcome
to the new session of the Scottish Hellenic Society.I hope you will enjoy the talks the Committee
has arranged for this session and that you will be able to attend regularly. Our venue will continue to be at St. Luke’s Greek Cathedral, 27 Dundonald Road,
Dowanhill, Glasgow G12 9LL, with the exception of the joint SHS Edinburgh
meeting which will be held in the conference room of the David Hume Tower at
Edinburgh University. The committee will arrange mini-buses for those who wish
to attend, a sign-up sheet will be available at our first lecture,
alternatively you could contact a committee member direct. There is no car park at St. Luke’s so parking
is in the street.
The
Society will continue to meet on a Tuesday with the exception of our second
meeting, the joint meeting with SHS Edinburgh, which will be held on Monday 05 November, and the Vasilopitta
evening which will be held on Wednesday
08 January. As usual at the opening
meeting we will have wine and mezedhes.
As
we are no longer constrained by janitorial costs and closing-up times, the
Committee has decided to continue with our meeting time of 7.30pm and we hope this will be welcomed by all. However, please allow yourself plenty of time
to find a parking space! The exception to this is the meeting in Edinburgh; we have to be
there for 6 - 6.30pm.
The
subscriptions for session 2012-2013 will remain at £15.00 (full member) and student/unwaged
membership remains at £5.00 but we ask that you consider the subscription as a minimum contribution; any
donation in excess will be gratefully received - and acknowledged.
The
lecture programme is set out overleaf. The
January meeting will again take the form of a social event - a Vasilopitta evening
where we will meet in the Elia Greek Restaurant, cut the New Year cake and
enjoy a meal together (details of cost to follow). Please note, as discussed at the AGM there
will be no lecture in December this year, instead we have two lectures in November.
We look forward to seeing you in the coming session.
