Welcome to the new session of the Scottish Hellenic Society. I hope you will enjoy the talks the Committee has arranged for this session and that you will be able to attend regularly. Our venue will continue to be at St. Luke’s Greek Cathedral, 27 Dundonald Road, Dowanhill, Glasgow G12 9LL, with the exception of the joint SHS Edinburgh meeting which will be held in the conference room of the David Hume Tower at Edinburgh University. The committee will arrange mini-buses for those who wish to attend, a sign-up sheet will be available at our first lecture, alternatively you could contact a committee member direct. There is no car park at St. Luke’s so parking is in the street.
The Society’s lecture meetings are as usual held on Tuesdays at 7.30 except for the Opening meeting on October 14th when it will be 7pm to give us plenty of time for wine and mezedes ahead of Robin Barber’s talk. The AGM on April 14th will also begin at 7pm. We expect to hold the Vasilopitta evening at a Greek taverna in Glasgow in early January close to the Day of Epiphany.
The subscriptions for session 2014-2015 are £10 (full member) and student/unwaged membership are now free but we ask that you consider the subscription as a minimum contribution; any donation in excess will be gratefully received - and acknowledged.
The lecture programme is set out overleaf. The January meeting will again take the form of a social event - a Vasilopitta evening where we will meet at a Greek tavern in Glasgow, cut the New Year cake and enjoy a meal together (details of cost to follow).
We look forward to seeing you in the coming session.
